Yohji Yamamoto is offering a rare glimpse into his world by appearing in the documentary This Is My Dream. He’s a world-renowned and heavily influential Japanese fashion designer known for his sharp tailoring and avant-garde designs that eschew trends. Bottom line, Yamamoto is a fashion genius and this is a must-see film.  It will be released later this year, so take a look at the trailer here.

Yamamoto is at the forefront of fashion, and to know that he starts from a point of view that harmony is boring and conflict is fascinating reflects onto the work he produces. In an insight into his personal philosophies, he speaks about how he finds the darker side of life attractive and when speaking of his upbringing in Toyko, comments;

“For my total life, I am comfortable being in black, not in the light. I was born in Tokyo, after bombs. So maybe this is my root, a ruined Tokyo. This dark side of the life is attractive for me, forever”
