Beginning this month, Sam Muirhead is trying to live open source for one year. What does that mean? Muirhead says he will be, "avoiding traditionally copyrighted products, using products released under open licenses, or adapting or developing my own."

For the 28-year-old filmmaker, this includes tech, but goes a lot deeper. "In every aspect of my life, from the clothes I wear to the film equipment and appliances I use, I will be looking for and switching to open source alternatives, in hardware, software and services."

We're interested to see where Sam's at in a year, and may be updating you periodically on his ambitious endeavor. In the meantime, you can learn more about the project at yearofopensource.net.
