Wonderloop, a new iPhone application, is attempting to shake up the social media space. Eschewing pictures and lengthy biographies that form the basis of many social networks, the app invites users to create a 10-20 second first person video profile instead. The idea being that a personal video will generally give other users a better impression of what they're about than a chunk of text and a photo – like meeting someone in person.

For those living in rural areas, making right connections with people in large cities – where many networking opportunities traditionally lie – can prove difficult. This is exactly what the app aims to remedy. Entirely people-focused, Wonderloop aims to level the playing field, giving anyone the chance to connect and collaborate with likeminded people – regardless of geographical location.

Initially available for iOS with an Android app in the works, Wonderloop allows users to join networks, use hashtags to identify personal and business interests, and introduce or be introduced to people through mutual contacts. Like Vycariousand MixBit, the app is part of a growing number of platforms using video and social media dedicated to build deeper connections amongst users.
