A new platform has been launched that aims to encourage a more adventurous type of travel.  Whimsy is a travel site that allows users to browse a list of curated destinations, all of which are chosen for being somewhat off the beaten track.  Options are given at budget prices and accompanied by a weather filter to ensure users visit at the right time of year. The hope is that by providing affordable and seasonal choices, travellers will be more likely to explore outside of their comfort zone.

The concept is straightforward enough, but does tie in with key traits of the modern traveller. With unconventional options such as the Mekong Delta in Vietnam and Lake Bunyoni in Uganda, Whimsy appears to be responding to a dominant millennial trend that places a high importance on unique experiences.

Looking ahead, Whimsy aims to include contributor content to allow users to share their stories.
