You can imagine then, that we’re quite taken with a new app that makes it possible to experience just that, every morning. Wake Up & Smell the Bacon is a scent-emitting alarm clock that brings all the goodness of sizzling bacon straight to your senses, at a pre-determined time.

Launched by American bacon and cold meat company, Oscar Mayer, the device combines an iPhone app with a companion device, which atomises the delectable, porky scent and emits it into the air.

Unfortunately, like Pop Secret’s similarly scent-enabled Pop-Dongle, the complete Wake Up & Smell the Bacon experience is not going to be available to everyone. Instead, you’ll have to enter a competition on Oscar Mayer's dedicated micro-site for a chance to win one of the scent-emitting devices. However, if it’s just the sound of sizzling pork belly you’re after, you can still download and use the app from iTunes. If you're lucky enough to win one of the devices, you can plug it into your phone, sync it with the app and let the magic happen.
