When it comes to digital illustration tools, artists are pretty limited for choice. Scanning in, using a mouse or trackpad, or a tablet are usually the only options. The Wacom Inkling, a new sketch pad scanning device, might have a solution.

Composed of a pressure sensitive pen and a receiver, the Wacom Inkling simply clips on to your choice of paper and scans the illustration below it. It has 1,024 different pressure readings, which ensures an accurate line width. The receiver also features a handy ‘Layers’ button that you can press to start a new layer or graphics or drawing, which will work with all the Adobe programs.

The positive implications, with artists being able to use their paper on pen sketches in a digital format, means that the initial stages of creativity can be captured and used more effectively. The Inkling is available to buy mid-September.
