Gender and sexuality have been big points of discussion of late. The representation of women in mainstream magazines continues to undergo scrutiny and all across media gender roles are being challenged (see, Jaden Smith in Louis Vuitton's womenswear campaign).
Exploring an under explored side of masculinity is Jannis Birsner and Matt Lambert’s new zine, VITIUM.
Themes of sexuality, subculture, love and friends occupy the pages of the zine, shoot exclusively in Berlin.
Based on the Latin phrase ’Vitium contra naturam’ or ‘vice against nature’, which was Thomas von Aquin's description of the crime of homosexual urges, VITIUM challenges a culture that underrepresent and often suppresses gay desire.
The number of niche publications have been steadily growing, as audiences increasingly demand that their media represents a more diverse and inclusive picture of the world they live in.
