Viceland, a 24 hour linear TV channel, marks the next step up in the evolution of the brand.

Vice Media have morphed into one of the worlds leading media companies so slickly that many new fans will be ignorant of the fact that they began as a counter-culture magazine. Twenty years later and their influence has extended with the launch of Viceland, a linear 24 hour television channel to be curated by Spike Jonez.

The channel launch was first mooted back in November, but some slight delays waylaid its initial progress, thankfully its now here. Vice has form in the creation of traditional television, having previously produced a long-form news program with HBO. However, Viceland can now house many of its recognisable shows. A great deal of the lifestyle and documentary content will simply migrate over from its website.

Viewers will be familiar with documentaries such as ‘Balls Deep’, ‘Weediquette’, and rapper-cum-chef Action Bronson’s infamous food show ‘F*ck That's Delicious’. These will feature alongside new programmes such as Ellen Page’s ‘Gaycation’, in which the actor and her best friend Ian Daniel explore LGBT cultures around the world.  ‘Flophouse’, will document the travails of broke comedians; Noisey will delve deeply into the world of music and Vice Lab is a late night variety show.

"First: It allows us to be truly platform agnostic and enable our audience to view our content wherever they want. Second: It represents a continued growth in our content quality and raises the ceiling even higher for our brilliant teams to attack stories from long form features to multi-episode series and even short form interstitials that will challenge the accepted norms of current TV viewing  Vice Media co-founder and CEO Shane Smith
