If you've ever suffered the embarrassment of jumping into a car only to realise you're sat next to a stranger and not the driver you just hailed, you'll be glad to hear of Uber's latest innovation.

The solution is called SPOT, and it allows riders and drivers to connect through the use of colour. Drivers attach the SPOT device to their windshield and once a rider is matched they're requested to select a colour in the app while waiting for their car. Once the driver arrives, the SPOT light strip will glow in the customers chosen colour. And riders can even press and hold the colour to light up their screens, helping the driver to identify them.

It's the latest experiment in an effort to make Uber the most seamless and efficient private transportation option available. Considering they don't have a uniform fleet of cars and that drivers aren't required to place an Uber placard inside their vehicle, it's a necessary step to distinguish Uber drivers from ordinary drivers - although sometimes the two are the same.
