A computer engineer won four prizes a day for nine months without lifting a fingerHunter Scott, a computer engineer from Georgia Tech has written a Twitter bot to automatically enter competitions. His bot ended up winning an average of four contests per day, every day for nine months straight. Scott wrote a Python script that logs into Twitter, searches for tweets that read along the lines of’ ‘RT (retweet) to win!’ and retweets them. Over the 9 months Scott ran his script, he entered approximately 165,000 contests. Of those, he won around 1,000 making his win rate just over half a percent. “My favorite thing that I won was a cowboy hat autographed by the stars of a Mexican soap opera that I had never heard of,” says Scott. “I love it because it really embodies the totally random outcome of these contests.” As AI creeps further into everyday life, a number of creative programmers are making their own timesaving hacks. Tinderbox is a facial recognition bot that makes predictions based on profiles you’ve previously liked, saving you the hassle of swiping for yourself.Check out the extensive list of Scott's winnings here.Still hungry for more?
