South African Internet service provider MWEB has come up with a novel way of expressing your mirth/misery during the World Cup - by adding a physical action to the ubiquitous Tweet.

From the comfort of the MWEB#Tweetseat, social media junkies can ‘log into the couch’ with their Twitter details before squeezing or throwing the cushions to automatically send a preloaded tweet. Cushions for the World Cup edition of the Tweetseat contain such footy adages as ‘#Defend’, ‘#WhatABeautifulGame’ and a controversial, ‘#GoHomeRef’. As an added feature, victorious seat users can activate “Cruise Control” by jumping up and down on the couch for a '#WeWon!' tweet.

This tongue-in-cheek piece of interactive furniture is part of an ongoing project to explore how the web and WiFi access is transforming our experience of public spaces and social connections, whist commenting on “the global ‘second screen’ trend of people connecting to social networks via a digital device while watching TV.”

The Tweetseat is also a prime example of ‘playful media’ being in the hands of the viewer - an area that was examined in the “Play Report” in the latest Protein Journal.
