With the internet constantly chipping away at our dwindling attention spans, finding the time, inclination or required levels of concentration required to finish a novel is becoming an increasingly daunting task. Which is why publishing house Penguin-Companhia has developed a way of turning social media's habit of distracting us into a means of motivation to finish a book.

In collaboration with creative agency Mood, they've developed the Tweet for a Read campaign, that includes a smart bookmark that detects when a book has been left unfinished for too long. With its built in WiFi-enabled computer, the bookmark will send the reader a tweet from the author, reminding them that they still have some reading to do.

This is a simple, effective example of the internet of things and our constant connectedness being utilised to perhaps revive some of the habits and activities we're slowly losing touch with.
