Life in the fast lane is an option more and more citizens of the Japanese city Yokohama are opting out of with the introduction of the Turtle Taxi. In the back of the car the passenger is offered the 'Yukkuri' button which, if pushed, tells the driver he can slow down, offer a smoother ride and switch off the engine at lights.

The Sanwa Kotsu Group, who run the company, introduced the Turtle Taxi in December of last year, allocating ten of their five hundred cars to the system, but now say there has been a fifteen percent increase in users. It's proven so popular there are plans to offer the Yukkuri button in every one of their cars by the end of the year. With more and more ways developing to disconnect from the modern world the fast lane may soon become a far less urgent place to be.
