Interactive music videos are all the rage with everyone from Kanye West to Tanlines getting a piece of this new media experience. For his newest single “Treasure” R&B singer Bruno Mars turned to NYC-based technology agency OkFocus to create an interactive video using Instagram’s new video function.

Fans are invited to visit TreasureDance.com where they are greeted by an old fashioned TV set playing the 80’s inspired video for “Treasure.” The VHS-styled video has a surprise however. The site looks for videos on Instagram that have been hashtagged with #treasuredance and uploads the most recent 100 videos into a random sequence amongst scenes from the original video.

As interactive videos continue to become more commonplace, it’s up to artists and agencies to improve the interactive elements. Certainly, allowing fans to becomes co-stars (however momentarily) with their favorite singer is a good start.
