Unique Flow is an interactive artwork that invites the user to explore a fluid, meditative landscape.

A car is more than a functional instrument, it's a way for the owner to express themselves. Automotive company Toyota are known for a playful and irreverent approach to their advertisements, so they called upon the Hackney-based digital design studio FIELD to put digital art front and centre in order to celebrate the debut of their new crossover vehicle, the C-HR concept car.

The result was Unique Flow. The project is comprised of an unremitting calligraphic line that invites the user to explore a fluid meditative landscape. Interaction with the art allows for creative participation in the process, as each key press, (or screen tap), generates a shift in the music, colour and direction of the line. Unbeknownst to the user, as we manoeuvre through the luminous urban landscape, littered with spatial sketches and interesting architecture, the line we follow traces the features of the C-HR.

The calligraphic line splits into different strands, changes colour and snakes in such a manner to flip our perspective, but still maintains a steady direction, onwards.

Advances in technology are enabling new ways for us to interact with products and services and that has an effect aesthetically - in how they look and how they feel. In creating Unique Flow, FIELD is pushing the boundaries of those new capabilities.
