We take a look at the most innovative getaways for the next generation traveller
The Great British package holiday to Lanzarote has its merits, sure.  But – as utterly scintillating as that sounds – a new generation of holiday makers are going rogue and asking for something a little more unique from their time away.  They're inspired to seek out different cultures and experiences to the usual beach holiday or city break, demanding time away from pestering emails and seeking back to basics adventures (far away from the maddening crowd). As it’s Travel Week here at Protein, we’ve chosen some of the most unusual and exciting getaways. Book early to avoid disappointment!

Cliff Hanger
Set yourself apart from all your gravity-bound office colleagues by staying in the Skylodge Adventure Suites. These three transparent sleeping pods hang above the Sacred Valley in Cusco, Peru and provide unparalleled views from a truly unique vantage point. The bad news is that you have to climb a 400ft rock face to get there or hold tight and grapple with 2,800m of zip wire. Salty retreatSituated on the beach of the sparsely populated island of Sandhornøya in the Norwegian Arctic Circle is Salt, a cultural festival that aims to bring crowds to a remote, and beautiful location. Visitors can enjoy site-specific art and sound installations, film and performance, as well as the world’s largest sauna. Plus, enjoy some striking pieces of pyramid structures designed by Finnish architect Sami Rintala, and some smoked torrfisk (or cod to you and me).

Drop Out
Abandon Normal Devices is a festival that does exactly what it says on the tin. Swap your spreadsheets and iPhone for immersive installations and virtual reality deep-dives, in the heart of the beautiful Grizedale Forest. In association with the Forestry Commission, the festival aims to disrupt conceptions about digital art, promising an utterly bewildering affair (in a good way), with Protein favourites, like experimental studio Marshmallow Laser Feast and pioneering architect Liam Young of Unknown Fields Division showcasing their cutting-edge work.Closer look  Get cultural with a trip to Lofoten International Art Festival. Located on a small cluster of islands off the coast of Norway, LIAF is now in its 15th year and has hosted a number of international artists including Olafur Eliasson, Lawrence Weiner and Gillian Wearing. Unusually, it doesn’t have a set location, choosing to inhabit existing structures, such as libraries and garages, which change with each event.

Out of Office
Is your office a searing hole of fiery ennui? Well get a new one! Surf Office is not quite a holiday, which makes it all the more easy to justify spending your time there. Taking advantage of a rise in connectivity allowing people to work from absolutely anywhere, their three locations in Gran Canaria, Lisbon and California have co-working spaces, which mean you can take a holiday without taking holiday.
