First established in 1997, The Webby Awards is known as ‘the internet’s highest honour’ for a good reason. Last year's show received 12,000 entries representing the best of the Web, from Activism to Animation.
The beauty of The Webbys, as they’re affectionately known, is that anyone is eligible to enter. Medium, Vine, and Airbnb were some of last year’s finalists, and a number of new upstarts also took centre stage, including interactive GIF app Seene and Play The Road, a piece of software that allows users to compose music as they drive.
Webbys are awarded by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, including Web luminaries like Tumblr founder David Karp; Grantland’s Bill Simmons; Alexis Ohanian, Partner, Y Combinator; June Cohen, Executive producer of TED Media; and Shane Smith, Founder and CEO of Vice Media.
Winners get a chance to thank friends, family and colleagues with a 5-word speech, a Webby hallmark, at their ceremony in New York City.
Don't miss out. The deadline for entries has recently been extended to 30 January. Enter the Webby Awards here.
