In a time where being a vinyl enthusiast is becoming an increasingly expensive and strenuous activity, London-based Sophie Austin and Elly Rendall have initiated a brand new concept that promotes a co-operative and sharing atmosphere within the vinyl community. The Vinyl Library opened its doors on July 1st, and as its apt name suggests it's an inventive approach that re-imagines the familiar concept of a library into a vinyl-only affair.

The idea took shape when the founders saw the pressing need for a different way of obtaining vinyl after their low budget clashed with their desire to build up their UK garage record collection. Their small idea of a communal vinyl collection has since then become reality and is now open to the public, offering free membership for anyone who donates records to the project.

Austin and Rendall also see a growing future for the library, as they're pushing for it to become a multi-functional creative space and social hub where people are encouraged to share music face to face. To help realise this bigger picture they're planning extra activities for the space, from DJing lessons to music documentary screenings. If the concept works out on a longer term, they also hope to see the library expand to other cities across the UK.
