Great Little Place brings hidden, local gems to curious city residents and tourists alike
Founders Rossa Shanks and Rich Brown have taken Great Little Place from humble beginnings as a Facebook page to the ultimate 'little black book' app, launching in 40 cities worldwide. The duo claim that the service helps you to find "the sorts of places that have personality, character and soul, the sorts of places you stumble across and tell stories about, places you'll never forget."
The app allows users to be both editors and curators at the same time. “Our guide will always be up-to-date, dynamic and organically improving,” explain Shanks and Brown. A simple interface facilitates the creation of instant itineraries of interesting bars, restaurants and cultural events far removed from users' usual hangouts.
Great Little Place is part of a growing trend of enabling both locals and visitors to avoid the obvious and dig a little deeper into the soul of their chosen destination. Millennials have developed a taste for using technology to take advantage of local knowledge when on the road, whether that means paying a "fixer" on Zoola Fix, or participating in communities like Kate's Goodness. Great Little Place joins a growing sector of apps and services which make users instant experts on a destination, while providing more personalized recommendations than traditional guidebooks full of tourist traps, and clunky listings websites which can often omit the off-the-beaten track experiences that millennials are most interested in.
