The School of Doodle Comes to Protein Studios
The School of Doodle's Be Loud Workshop is coming to Protein Studios.
The School of Doodle's "Be Loud Workshop" is coming to Protein Studios this Saturday the 30th of April. The event will run from 2pm - 9pm.
To put it plainly, there aren’t enough physical or digital spaces in existence that can help teenage girls flourish. Where boys have a plethora of established options, (specifically catered to their needs), girls are oftentimes confronted with a limiting range of opportunities.
Molly Logan, co-founder and major driving force behind The School of Doodle alongside film producer Sybil Robson-Orr, is remedying this with concrete action. Having grown personally frustrated by a lack of access to ideas and people who could catalyse her creative ambitions at a young age, she set out to ensure the next generation of teenage girls wouldn’t be made to feel similarly.
This Saturday from 2pm, School of Doodle comes to Protein Studios where it will host a series of workshops, panels and talks designed to connect ambitious teen girls with the knowledge and opportunities not found in high school. On this occasion, Grace Miceli of Art Baby Gallery will contribute her time and talent. Attendees can also look forward to a number of performances from all female, or female fronted bands. As if that wasn’t enough, participants will also automatically have the chance to feature in Doodle’s upcoming ad campaign which will appear September’s issue of DAZED.
Ultimately, School of Doodle is a physical and online space created for girls, by girls that arms members with the tools needed to overcome ‘the confidence gap’ that exists between teen boys and girls. Self-stereotyping, (reinforced by societies' behavioural expectations of girls), is also combatted by an insistence that girls should take up space and “Be Loud”.
To date, the initiative is comprised of 80 teen ambassadors, six teen editors and 32 teen content creators. So far the School has found support in a broad spectrum of creative people; from Yoko Ono and Arina Abramovich, to Samira Wiley and Ariana Huffington.
