The UK's political conversation was broadcast on Southbank in the form of a multi-coloured pie chart

Design studio Bompas & Parr have teamed up with Facebook for an artistic project to coincide with the General Election. Centered at the Coca-Cola London Eye, the team combined stats and design in the form of a large scale LED pie chart, illustrating the UK’s political interactions.

Using social media as a hub for collating responses, Facebook tracked every topical social interaction to monitor the public’s differing response to politics.  The anonymous data was then scaled on the 443-foot landmark and colour coded depending on the topic of discussion; party, issue, or party leader. Bompas & Parr took a similar approach to garner attention during the last election, when they utilised their culinary expertise with pop-up bistro/bar, Parliamentary Waffle House.  Hoping to inspire and engage millennial voters, the studio monitored the nations response.

As we’ve witnessed in the run up to the election, businesses are finding innovative ways to get the public actively involved in political debate. Unlock Democracy’s app VoteMatch also uses technology as an interactive tool to grab the attention of a generation notorious for its short attention span.
