Habitat is launching a gallery space underneath its Kings Road store on May 10th, opening with images from John Pawson’s highly-acclaimed A Visual Inventory.

Unlike other retailers who are coming up with innovative ways to re-engage customers with their brand in store (think Benetton’s live window that linked with their Colors exhibition and see our recent feed on Bloomingdale’s), Habitat are re-coursing to something a little more traditional.

After recent store closures, Habitat wants to re-establish itself at the fore of British interior design again. According to Suzanne Trocmé, a design journalist and the gallery’s curator, the space will be used to 'initiate design ideas, make links with architects and designers and serve as a space for brand creativity.’

Perhaps it’s testament to Habitat’s self-confidence but it’s refreshing to see such an aspirational lifestyle brand adhere to simple artistic and creative ideals.

The Platform Gallery’s inaugural exhibition will be a collection of images taken by the architect John Pawson and collated in the very recent A Visual Inventory.
