Anyone familiar with the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (also called Garbage Island) knows there's a lot of plastic floating around in the Ocean and in other sizable bodies of water. A group of designers has proposed a concept that might help alleviate the problem.

The device was conceived of by Elie Ahovi, Adrien Lefebvre, Philomene Lambaere, Marion Wipliez, Quentin Sorel and Benjamin Lemoal. Simply known as the Marine Drone, it works like a mobile net. The drone traps plastic debris while repeling aquatic life with a "special sensor". It has enough battery life to stay out for several weeks.

The Marine Drone is still just a concept, but we're excited by the idea of anything that might chip away at that floating mass of waste.
