An installation that allows you to step into the skin of another person using virtual reality technology
Created by the Spanish interdisciplinary art collective Be Another Lab, The Machine to be Another uses neuroscience, technology and performance to allows subjects to step momentarily into someone else's skin.

Created to quantify and explore concepts like sexism, gender bias and identity, this innovation allows participants to challenge the relationship between body and self. This is achieved through combined point-of-view and immersive head mounted cameras of two synchronised Oculus Rift headsets.

When used between two partners of opposite gender while moving in tandem, this creates the illusion of switching sex, looking at yourself move from a fresh perspective, as well as being able to simply look down and see a different person in front of you.

This technology is not just used to swap genders, it has also been used with wheelchair bound individuals to experience the sensation of dancing and walking by linking to a performer’s movements.
