We were big fans of Instaprint, the device which allows Instagram photos to be wirelessly printed out, when it launched back in March. Now, photo specialists The Impossible Project have announced they're launching a similarly exciting project, which would allow analogue Polaroid photos to be created from smartphones.

The Impossible Project, best known for saving the last Polaroid production plant and supplying Polaroid film to photo-enthusiasts around the world, have just announced plans for The Instant Lab. The idea is a simple one - to create an device which would seamlessly allow smartphone photos to be printed in a polaroid style format, creating something physical from digital content.

The product involves a specially design iPhone cradle resembling the typical Polaroid device, which, when used with a specialised lens, would expose the film and print the digital photo onto it. Unlike Polaroids, however, where half the fun is seeing how the photo turns out, the accompanying app would permit editing and cropping to create the perfect print.

While the project isn't quite a reality yet (the funding has, however, just been completed on their Kickstarter page), its a great example of a concept that bridges the divide between the analogue and digital worlds. Check it out here.
