If you were to make a list of the best things about London, 'its smell' would be unlikely to make an appearance on there. However, as we've seen with previous experiments that combine the sense of smell with a sense of space, such as the scented guide book, Smell York, our sense of geography and smell are very closely linked.

To explore this idea, British designer Tom Dixon presents his latest project, The Factory, at luxury trade show Maison&Objet in Paris later this week. It consists of an installation that sees sculptural objects created on-site in a pop-up factory using authentic London materials, such as the capital's distinctive red bricks, nettle leaves and crocuses to create scent infused objects that are aiming to bring some of London's charm to the City of Light.

The combination of design, scent, and geographical relevance suggests a more encompassing approach to creating sensory artefacts and how we tie them to specific locations.
