Tasting House
The sugar brand have transformed an entire hotel room into an edible, indulgent treat. Try to contain your inner 5 year old.
Returning once again to the realm of unusual materials – we’ve recently covered stone-framed sunglasses – Tate & Lyle present a much tastier option, Tasting House, world’s first hotel made entirely from cake.
Designed to stimulate the gustatory rather than visual senses, the temporary hotel in Dean Street, Soho, has been built to promote a new range of golden and brown cane sugars from Tate & Lyle Sugars, and includes edible art across three floors and eight rooms. Over a thousand meringues have been stitched together by hand to create a rug at the centrepiece of one of the rooms, whilst 2,000 macaroons adorn the walls, 20kg of marshmallows form decorative garlands, windowsills have been built from colossal chunks of fudge, and a bath has been filled with caramel popcorn.
The hotel opens today, for one night only (for obvious reasons), and was the work of 14 artists using more than 600kg of sugar over 3,000 hours. The stalwarts of British sweetness are hoping guests will eat their way through walls and furniture, and if that’s not enough, they’ll be able to order vanilla sponge cushions from the room service menu. Willy Wonka eat your heart out.
