Human consciousness in a thickly coloured world“This sensory installation reminds us of the richness of our interaction with the world,” says the Wellcome Collection’s curator Emily Sargent. “It’s a personal universe of experience constructed within the confines of our skulls.”

Visitors to the space, created by artist Ann Veronica Janssens, will be enveloped in ‘yellowbluepink’, a brightly coloured mist that makes it impossible to make out the depth of the space or surface details – all of which is designed to disorientate the viewer and heighten their state of being.

By taking time-poor, busy and stressed-out urbanites into these immersive projects artists and curators are tapping into people’s need for out-of-this world spaces where they can disconnect from the internet in order to escape and refocus.

Helping people step out of normal perceptual boundaries, whether it be with a hyper-fluid club concept or a website that challenges them to log out, is key for brands looking to cut through the noise and traffic of the Internet. Today to stand out an experience needs to be meaningful as well as beautifully executed.
