Tangible Orchestra is an interactive sound and light installation by artists Rebecca Gischel and Sebastial Walter, otherwise known as Picaroon.

The installation is made up of several glowing pods scattered around a space. Each of these glowing pods is installed with motion detecting sensors that respond to movement, transforming themselves into musical instruments when triggered by passersby. The composition varies with the positioning and proximity of the listener in relation to the units and as a result, is different each time it is played. As more people congregate in the project space a more complete musical work will eventually be created. This feature adds a human element to the work, which otherwise bares a striking resemblance to Computer Orchestra, a project we covered a while back that uses motion detecting software to conduct an electronic orchestra.

Highlighting the impact that digital technology has had on the production and performance of music, Tangible Orchestra cleverly bridges the gap between technology and human interaction in this responsive and inventive installation.
