Björk's latest virtual reality video takes you on a 360° spin
“We found ourselves in Iceland one day with nothing to do and a 360 camera lying about,” says Björk, explaining the release of her virtual reality video.

“We discussed its potential for intimacy and Andrew Huang then suggested we take it to the beach where the song was written.”

The song in question is ‘Stonemilker’ from Björk’s latest album, Vulnicura, and the setting is Grótta, a beach just outside of Reykjavik.

The first 50 people to buy Vulnicura in London’s Rough Trade East and New York's Rough Trade Brooklyn have, and will, receive a ticket to view the video with VR headsets over the next few days.

The VR experience will also be available at New York's MoMA PS1 for two months to accompany Björk’s retrospective at the main museum.

Along with director Andrew Huang, Björk worked with audio specialist Chris Pike and creative producer James Merry to create the video, which was captured using a 360 VRSE.works camera.

Björk’s experimentation with technology is nothing new. The 2011 album Biophilia was released alongside a series of apps that linked the album’s themes to musicology concepts. This venture into VR seems appropriate seen as the medium is having a bit of a moment right now.

However, this isn’t just an artistic project; using innovative technology to promote musical releases is a growing trend with artists looking to avoid staid marketing routines.
