Meet Stanley, a modified player piano that takes requests via Twitter. Digital Kitchen originally created Stanley for the Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle, Washington.

Tweets are received by a custom-moderation tool, added to a queue, and then a pre-made MIDI file of the song is loaded. A USB MIDI interface then sends note data to Stanley's hardware controller. Finally, each note activates an electric solenoid valve, which plays a key.

According to his latest tweet, Stanley's taking a break after the July 22 conclusion of the Block Party, But you can follow @stanleypiano to see where he'll be popping up next.

Cheers to Digital Kitchen for merging a classic instrument with contemporary technology and social media.
