With the music industry in turmoil, a young start-up called Spawnsong is trying out a whole new concept to help in independent music producers find a market for their music.

Pretty much the Kickstarter version of iTunes, instead of offering the final song for people to listen to, Spwnsong lets users upload samples of a new track while it's still in the making. If listeners are convinced by the potential of the project they can contribute to it's production with a simple click on the pre-order button, as well as offer (hopefully) constructive feedback and criticism. For the the customer there is the chance to directly influence music creators and to be the first to discover brand new artists before anybody else.

It's interesting to see the crowndfunding model applied to more specific industries, and perhaps this is the start of a wave of more specialist crowdfunding services.
