How we experience music seems to shift so fast keeping up can, at times, feel impossible. Music technology company, Sonos, are always keen to push these boundaries and experiment with new ways music can inhabit a physical space. For example, a few months ago they set up their CyFi Lab, where music was paired with visual art pieces.

This week, in New York’s NeueHouse, Sonos Studios have installed Sounds of New York City, an exhibition that includes interactive pieces where visitors are invited to audibly explore the city’s geography, culture and architecture. This concept was represented by a ten by ten-metre wall of LED equipped speakers that change colour in response to visitor’s movement and lets them explore the sounds of New York’s five boroughs.

As well as the installations, the week long event also sees performances, workshops and talks from some of the most influential names in contemporary music, including Dev Hynes, Band of Skulls and Q-Tip.
