) Music technology is getting weirder by the minute. The Ototo consisted of a small circuit board, some clips and enabled users to turn anything in to musical instrumental. Now Nick Brennan has created Sound Pegs. The new device can transform any household object in to an instrument, including books, shoes and even plant pots. The Camberwell College of arts graduate's device consists of a series of enlarged wooden pegs, two speakers and a converter that changes the vibrations into a digital signal.

When the pegs are connected to an object, the sensors within the jaws detect when the object is struck. The vibrations are then sent to the converter, which provides the signal to a laptop running a music production programme, like Garageband or a similar program. The programme then triggers a sound, which is transmitted through the accompanying wood speakers. Depending on what sounds you have stored in the programme, the objects can be used to create anything from guitars to pianos to drums.
