Sonictravlog is a new mobile app concept that taps into the geo-tagging trend, offering a new way to explore and map urban spaces in multi-sensory ways. Whilst most geo-tagging apps are based on visual appeal of sight vs. site, Sonictravlog would, in theory, connect people through sound, allowing users to record and listen to audio files uploaded by other people from different locations.

This method of mapping out places through sound is a novel way to experience environments in new ways, with frequent uploads added to sound maps to help people better understand how a place feels, via noises associated with that site.

Developer Jonathan Edwin Lo has designed the concept app around two modes: Timer and Navigate. Users who set the app to Timer mode will be able to record short clips, automatically, from time to time. These clips act as a sound diary. Using Navigate mode, users can expand the journalling process by recording sounds according to a route they’ve created or joined. Users can then interact with each other by adding sounds to routes that friends have created, building sound maps together for a more comprehensive aural depiction of the physical world around us.
