Whether dining out in a supper club or having a casual pint in the local pub, food and drink is the perfect way to instigate conversation and a little creative thought. This is the inspiration behind Something I Ate, a new food and art event series in New York created by Sam Kim of Skimkim Foods and Kat Popiel of On Plate, Still Hungry.

For the project, artists are asked to document seven days of things they ate, and then produce an exclusive artwork based on this using a medium of their choosing, such as photography, jewelry, fashion, film or music. After this, Kim then creates a food dish and cocktail pairing inspired by the ideas in these culinary artworks. Artists involved include Shantell Martin, Kinfolk Bicycles, Brian Hubble, Valissa Yoe, Duffy Higgins, Charles Shedden, SlantShack Jerky, Sam Kim, James McDuffee and Mark Byron.

The event takes place on Thursday next week at 7pm, and you buy tickets for it here. You can also read a bit more about the project on the Something I Ate Facebook page.

From supper clubs to culinary experiments, food is playing an increasingly important role in our culture, with more people wanting to experience convivial moments between friends and family. We look forward to seeing more projects taking a creative approach to the idea.
