That the rich get the most for free is one of the world’s great injustices. Slightly more understandably (but still irritatingly) the more popular among us also often get preferential treatment, occasionally for the heft of their following.

One such example of this was at the opening of OnePiece’s East Coast flagship store on 557 Broadway in New York. The pop up store offered a unique way to shop called #SocialCurrency which allowed customers to leverage their social following across multiple platforms towards in-store purchases.

Shoppers could connect their social media accounts to the OnePiece ambassador system, known as 'PieceKeepers' in store. Once synced, the PieceKeepers platform calculated the customers’ following across all linkable platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, Vine, Pinterest, Youtube and LinkedIn) to determine their total social following. This number was then computed into a dollar amount, where every 500 followers are equal to $1.

OnePiece aren’t the first we've seen rewarding people for a large social media following; the #100aires auction saw artworks go on sale with the price being determined by a bidder's social media reach.
