Ever wondered what it’s like to be inside someone else’s social media stream? As part of this year’s TED conference in Vancouver, Delta Air Lines collaborated with MKG to let visitors find out. Working with artists Lauren McCarthy and Kyle McDonald, the result was Social Soul – a completely immersive digital installation that surrounded visitors with their various Twitter streams.

Using a 360-degree display of mirrors, monitors and sound, Social Soul allowed participants to walk in and connect with other like-minded TED attendees. Scanning their Twitter feeds using a custom algorithm, on leaving the installation users and their ‘soul mates’ each received a tweet, encouraging them to connect offline.

As the web continues to evolve, people are beginning to look for – and create – new ways to experience it, much like VR equivalent, FireBox.
