In order to get one of the coveted 5,000 spots for the immensely popular 10th Annual Coca-Cola Summer Love Festival in Israel, teens had to sign up immediately when tickets went on sale at the start of July. For those unable attend, however, Israeli agency Gefen Team developed Social Robot, a two-wheeled robot that acts as a real world surrogate for social situations.

Sporting the Coca-cola’s signature red and white and topped off with a sharp black cap, Social Robot brought the summer camp experience to those behind their computers. From their homes, teens could control the robot’s movement, communicate with friends, interact with the music, explore festival grounds, and generally be part of the experience. Each robot was equipped with a screen on the front that streamed the users webcam to the face of the robot, allowing the teens to be virtually present at the festival.

While Social Robot could be construed as a bit of an odd way to interact with peers, its aim is to promote a sense of community and happiness amongst a young, tech-savvy generation.
