Smell York
A scent-packed travel guide operates both as a source of information and as a souvenir for your trip
It's become apparent in recent years that smell is ripe for experimentation - we recently saw SensaBubble explore the field for advertisers, while New York Phew York! was a scratch 'n sniff tour of the titular city. Perhaps taking some inspiration from the latter is a new effort that will utilise the sense in the form of a travel guide.
Smell York is designed to operate as a guide which will hold lingering memories of your visit long after you've gone. By doing so the book also operates as a souvenir of your time spent, breeding new life in its pages after its initial use.
The free guide book is hoping to tempt visitors by including twelve scents, each representing a month of the calender. The city is captured in its present day with the whiff of blooming daffodils or the heather on the North York Moors, but the city's rich history has also been included in the way of steam trains and gunpowder.
As scent teeters on the precipice of becoming an intriguing source for the advertising world, one day we may be able to stick our noses in before booking our holidays. For now, you can request a copy of the book, while stocks last, at emailingcontactinginfo@visityork.org.
