Think room fragrance and you'll probably imagine a pesky plug-in contraption or over-powering incense - in other words not necessarily something that evokes a positive emotional response. Well, it's this unfavourable rep that provided Design Parade 8 festival-finalist Daniele Bortotto with his inspiration for Silicone Dispensers.

Working with a specialist perfumer, Bortotto developed three silicone objects, each intended for a specific location and purpose: Eau d'Orange is desgined for keeping working and studying-minds fresh and focused; Pillow n. 5, with its notes of camomile and lavender, is an antidote to sleeplessness and Air de Provence injects fresh countryside air into big-city living spaces.

Silicone Dispeners were infused with their bespoke fragrance during the moulding process so the scent is literally contained within the object - unlike standard scent dispeners that need to be activated in some way. The enticing colour and shape are no accident: Bortotto wants people to draw their faces closer to the object as they'd be drawn to flowers.

Much like Olfactive Studio, the Silicone Dispensers project explores the interplay between the senses and mood, and by serving as a design-focused alternative to traditional room fragrance, they subvert what Bortotto calls the 'typology' of scent-related objects.
