The maker revolution is truly kicking off. We’ve seen workshops set-up to re-teach millennials how to craft objects, a children’s book designed to inspire the next generation to embrace 3D-printing and now a snowboard kit, by Swiss design studio Yes, that dares fans to entirely shape their own ride.

Order the Shape It Yourself kit and you won’t just find yourself spray-painting on a new colourway or simply adding a tag, but taking a 156cm ‘Clark’ board, made up of high-quality wood, fiberglass, resin, topsheet and p-tex, and creating an entirely new design, from Illustrator to workbench.

The downside for some might be the two days it takes to build the ‘Clark’ (plus a few hardware tools), but the upshot for enthusiasts is they cross the boundary from consumer to maker, create a totally unique product and gaining membership to an otherwise exclusive group.

“The goal for the Clark is to create an open-source community,” say Yes. Its blog provides makers with a list of basic instructions and templates, detailing everything from how to shape a board with different characteristics, like a drawn-out nose or sunken tail, to general safety tips.

Ultimately, though, it’s up to the online community to upload new templates, share success stories via the #YesClark! hashtag, add pointers and get their hands dirty.
