There’s a wealth of mood and thought evoking elements in the spaces around us that often go overlooked. Visual artist Seb Camilleri is amongst the emerging collective of creative’s taking inspiration from this experiential bond. His works to date include illustrative representations of personal interior/exterior space and video projects that use buildings themselves as a canvas to project graphic shapes and photographs as ghostly memories from past homes.   Seb’s work sparks a re-connection with the emotional ties to the spaces around us. His work is inspired by the leading work in architectural theory, The Eyes of the Skin – Architecture and the Senses, by the Finnish architect Juhani Pallasmaa: “…it [architecture] directs our consciousness back to the world and towards our own sense of self and being. Significant architecture makes us experience ourselves as complete embodied and spiritual beings.” We think it’s an interesting concept and so does Musicity who’ve undertaken a similar project here in London. The initiative has captured the essence of a selection of iconic buildings across the city by commissioning artists to produce music that interprets our relationship to them. You can take part in the project by downloading the app that, by visiting the buildings featured, allows you to stream and listen to the tracks for free. Find out more here and in the mean time be sure to look out for Seb’s work on display very soon.
