This weekend the King’s Cross Filling Station will host a series of science-based installations, ideas and events curated by Super/Collider, the London-based collective that uses the creative industries to promote science.

Using the decommissioned petrol station as a source of inspiration, the weekend’s themes predominantly revolve around the future of a post-petroleum world and the scientific developments that could result in alternative forms of fuel. The old forecourt will be used for more artistic purposes as talks, screenings and demonstrations take place across the two days.

Even if you’re not a science geek, there’ll be plenty of goings-on to pique your interest: a talk on urban wildlife, something from the guys behind the FARM:shop and Barking Bathhouse, and of course plenty of food, drink and live music.

We’re accustomed to electronic arts and post-digital ideas festivals so it’s refreshing to see something science-focussed such as this. By occupying one of London’s most hyped new spaces and covering topics that don’t come across as overly abstruse, Super/Collider are making a serious move towards changing the profile of science.
