Scent Rhythm, a concept by Aisen Caro Chacin, is a timekeeping device that maps time through scent. By transmitting fragrances at specific daily intervals, the device promotes the production of certain neurotransmitters and sets a scent cycle for the wearer.

The biology behind this method of timekeeping is based around the body’s natural response to circadian (24 hour) rhythms. Wearers of Scent Rhythm will find that the device maps relational olfactory sequences, by administrating concoctions of recognisable scents and supplements, which we might link to certain activities. For example, chamomile and melatonin are administered during sleep, while espresso and caffeine are emitted during waking hours.

By keeping track on these scent cycles, users have a completely new – and largely subconscious – means of telling time, both while awake and asleep. This unconventional approach to timekeeping is reminiscent of Durr, a watch that keeps track of time through periodic vibrations against its wearer’s wrist, encouraging increased awareness of life’s daily rhythms.
