In the last Protein Journal, the travel report investigated the convenience and freedom afforded to the millennial traveller thanks to developments in technology, a bottomless resource of travel apps and a certain game changing peer-to-peer hospitality brand.
There aren’t many places on Earth you can’t stay these days, but Swedish hotel chain Scandic are doing their best to populate the remaining ones (at least temporarily) by craning a mobile hotel room into wherever a guest wants to stay (within Sweden, Finland and Sweden). Forget going to a hotel, bring the hotel to you.
For $330 a night, Scandic To-Go will deliver a luxury shipping container to a location of your choice. The container includes two beds, a fully equipped bathroom, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and a terrace to enjoy the views of wherever the room happens to be.
Now that the world is a holiday maker’s oyster, run of the mill package holidays won’t do, we want to get into those nooks and crannies, we want something bespoke, and so Scandic’s ploy of ‘bringing a hotel room to you,’ guarantees the exclusivity many travellers crave.
Since the program started, rooms have been situated in the city centre of Stockholm, by a lake in Finland and on a Swedish beach.
