Say bye bye to product ownership

Tech start-up ByeBuy lets people enjoy their favourite items on a pay-as-you-go basis
Start-up company ByeBuy’s mission is to “buy it for you, so you don’t have to.” Offering the world’s first on-demand tech consumption, founder Michael Cassau wants to offer a monthly hassle-free subscription service where people can access what they want and keep it for as long as they need it.
“We think it is time for an alternative consumption model that challenges the status quo, that you need to either purchase or finance everything you want to enjoy,” says Cassau. “By doing this, we are trying to really reduce cost and smooth everyone’s cash flow. We also believe that the decision to enjoy the newest tech should be as easy and as quick as ordering food.”
With the influx in companies such as Uber and Netflix offering on demand services, ownership as a concept is dissolving. In today’s consumer market, people are choosing to stream and rent rather than take ownership of products. In our Audience Survey we explored how tech has affected modern day consumption. “Smartphones are becoming a bubble of personalised media experience we carry everywhere and anywhere says technologist Tom Chatfield. “It’s a premium that can be charged for in the name of ease and control.”
The pay-as-you-go system is due to launch this month, with products such as wearables, games and Apple devices available with their own flexible subscription fee.
