Similar to Dunes, Saltygloo is a 3D printing experiment that uses everyday materials to bring amazing structures into existence.

Conceived by Emerging Objects, a Californian design and research studio, the semitransparent dome is made up of 336 bricks printed using salt collected from the San Francisco Bay area. The unique blocks are created by laying down fine salt and glue layers, and fixed together with thin aluminum rods. Each block is randomly rotated and aggregated, the whole process bearing resemblance to the way salt naturally crystalizes and deposits.

The Saltygloo is currently exhibited at the Museum of Craft and Design is San Francisco and will be on show through January 5.
