Rollware
Laser-cut rolling pins that create intricately patterned, edible plates and serves as a low-tech method of making unusual things in the kitchen.
Rollware is a collection of patterned laser-cut rolling pins that can be used to create bread-based edible plates. It was designed by students from Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam, as a part of the Altered Appliances collection. The dough is flattened, and then imprinted with patterns. The second set of pins help to cut it into the shape of a plate. Four patterns and sizes are available, to be used with different food types. Once cooked, the plates are ready to be eaten or admired.
Rollware was presented in Milan this year with a live demo. There was a simple production line, highlighting each step of making. The project was inspired by low-tech methodologies and the use of hand-powered gadgets, which are still suitable for the modern kitchen.
