When heading to a foreign country, it can often be hard to stray away from regular tourist destinations and head off the beaten track. While many new travel services such as insider hotels have sprung up to encourage fresh exploration of cities, it's still been hard to really explore on the large scale. New service, Roadtrippers, aims to change this by offering driving directions through the USA based on interesting routes.

Users can plug in a 'start' and 'end' destination, and the site will generate a number of routes to take. Drivers can alter the distance they would like to travel and what kind of things they want to see on their journey (everything from accommodation to natural wonders, awesome restaurants or abandoned buildings). 'Bucket list' routes can be saved for a later date, or users can search through a list of key destinations suggested by local experts.

Like the 'Drift' apt we featured earlier this week, this is another example of technology encouraging user exploration and discovery of their surroundings.
